LNWR 4-6-0 Claughton class No 2179 is seen at the head of an up Holyhead service in the years just prior to grouping. Built at Crewe in March 1920 No 2179 was renumbered by the LMS as No 5969 in January 1927 and with the introduction of Stanier's Class 5 & 5XP locomotives was withdrawn in 1934.
