LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6139 'The Welch Regiment' on a down special leaves Rugby station

LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6139 'The Welch Regiment' on a down special leaves Rugby station just before the outbreak of World War 2 in August 1939. The addition of the high sided Stanier tender gave the class a better range through increased coal and water capacity. It undoubtedly was a vast improvement on the eye providing a better visual balance to the large diameter boiler. Number 6139 was another North British Locomotive built Scot to order number 23634 in October 1927 and lasted in service for thirty-five years being withdrawn in October 1962 from Newton Heath shed for scrapping at Crewe works the following year in May 1963.
