Ex-LMS 4-6-2 Coronation Scot class No 46224 'Princess Alexandra' stands in the station at the head of the down 'Royal Scot'

Ex-LMS 4-6-2 Coronation Scot class No 46224 'Princess Alexandra' stands in the station at the head of the down 'Royal Scot' on 30th June 1948. The sloping top to the smokebox and the gap in front of the cylinders are evidence that it was originally built as a streamliner. Number 46224 was built at Crewe works in July 1937 and was withdrawn from service in October 1963 from Polmadie shed in Glasgow and was quickly scraped in the same month by Crewe works.
