Ex-LMS 8F 2-8-0 No 48693, on a north bound freight, comes
off the Soho line to join the Grand Junction en-route to Bescot shed. The line
to the left proceeds on to Witton and Aston along the original route to
Birmingham. The first vehicle behind the locomotive is an old tender used for
carrying the sludge drained from the boilers. May 59
Number 48693 was one of the hundreds of locomotives ordered
by the Railway Executive during the war and was built by Brighton works in
March 1944. It lasted in service until withdrawn from Northwich (CLC Joint)
shed in April 1967 to be scrapped by Drapers Ltd of Hull in August 1967.
