An inside view showing ex-LMS 2-6-2T 3P No 40157 standing in front of an unidentified ex-LMS 2-6-0 during the re-roofing of the shed by British Railways in 1957. The 'saw tooth' design favoured by the LNWR is clearly evident in this view as are the full length smoke vents. Hawkins & Reeves state in their book 'LMS Engine Sheds - Volume One the LNWR' that "FW Webb introduced his 'New Standard Steam Shed' featuring a northlight pattern style of roof, constructed in timber, slated and glazed supported by cast iron columns during the 1870s. Walls were of brick and windows where provided were iron framed".
