Ex-LMS 2-8-0 8F No 48387 is seen standing alongside Nuneaton's Ash Plant being prepared for its next turn of duty. In the background appears to be an unidentified Stanier 2-6-0 some times called a 'Stanier Crab', so called as these were the Stanier's development of the hugely successful Hughes 2-6-0 "Crab" locomotives. The nickname of the latter derived from the position of the relatively low pressure cylinders requiring these to be raised above normal footplate level. The movement of the connecting rods etc were said to resemble the actions of a crab. However the Stanier locomotives shared none on this design so this nick name was not all apt.
