The station as originally built complete with passing loop, two platforms with station accommodation, footsteps to the road providing both access to the station and crossover facilities for passengers from the booking office. Note too the barrow crossing at the end of the bridge and the raised structure originating from under the platform and crossing between the two platforms.

The rodding controlling the signals at either end of the station can be seen between the far rail and the far platform. In its early years the station, as was common at many station's across the country's, was kept very neat by staff being painted on a regular basis and well laid out with flower beds, window boxes and baskets.
