Ex-LMS 4P 2-6-4T No 42389, one of Stafford shed's Fowler tank locomotives, stands next to Sheepcote Lane signal cabin in November 1958. The line between Wolverhampton and New Street ran in a cutting at this point with New Street North tunnel to the right of the photographer. The signal cabin (signal cabin was the term used by LNWR staff for what most other railwaymen described as a signal box) was demolished by an ex-LNER B1 4-6-0 class locomotive in 1961 when it failed to stop at signals. Built by Derby works in June 1933, No 42389 was to remain in service until Match 1963 when it was withdrawn from 8C Speke shed.
