LMS stations and trains

Ex-LMS 4P Fowler 2-6-4T No 42308 stands at the head of a local train bound for Coventry. Reg Kimber writes, 'as No 42308 has a 3A shedplate I would suggest that it is working the afternoon train to Birmingham via Coventry.

When I was very young, about 10 years old, some friends and myself caught this train after a day at Leamington train-spotting. We thought all trains went on to Nuneaton and we had quite a shock when the train took the Birmingham line after leaving Coventry. Fortunately it stopped at Canley Halt and an understanding porter put us on the next train back to Coventry'.

Number 42308 was built at Derby in January 1928 and was the first of the class to be withdrawn, August 1959 from Chester Shed, before being scrapped by TW Ward Ltd of Bolton-on-Dearne in January 1960.
