Ex-MR 0-6-0 2F No 3084 is seen at the head of a local
passenger train to Coventry. The use of goods engines on passenger services was
a common practice particularly in the summer months when traffic levels could
peak with holiday traffic. It was also standard practice by UK railway
companies to cascade older locomotives onto secondary duties.
Number 3084, a MR 1357 class locomotive, was built by Beyer
Peacock in December 1882 and survived in service for 77 years being initially
stored from February 1959 at Trafford Park until its official withdrawal as BR
No 58213 in August 1959 and scrapped shortly afterwards.
