London Midland Scottish Railway Route: Nuneaton to
Leamington
Kenilworth Station: lnwrk162
Ex-LNWR 2-4-2T 1P No 6749 is seen running bunker first past
the Whitemoor Brickwork sidings with a local passenger train. The lack of coal
in the bunker would indicate that the locomotive had already completed several
trips prior to the photograph being taken. Number 6749 was built at Crewe in
May 1897 and is believed to have seen out her service in the area after this
photograph was taken as she was withdrawn in February 1952 from Milverton
shed.
Note the wagons standing in line on the left. Whilst one is
definitely loaded with coal it is not known what the others are loaded with as
coal this fine was not common prior to the war. Also the coal yard at
Kenilworth was at the other end of the station so it might be that these wagons
are in transit. Circa 1936
