LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Harborne
Hagley Road: lnwrhr66a
This close up of image 'lnwrhr66' was included to illustrate
how advertising was an everyday part of the railway scene. Railway travel was a
significant aspect of everyday life for the vast majority of the population in
the absence of motor cars and railway companies fully exploited this from the
very early days of railways by allowing advertising.
Most of the advertising was promoted by using enamel signs
as these were not only robust and therefore long lasting against the elements
and the corrosive atmosphere associated with railways but were also free
standing requiring just a few screws to fix them to whatever surface was
available.
