LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton
Hampton in Arden Station: lnwrhia686a
Close up of image 'lnwrhia686' showing the relationship
between the original 'Derby Junction' station ¼ down the line and its
LNWR replacement. The signal box that controlled the junction can still be seen
with a signal in front and a train passing the box.
In front of the bridge at the end of the down platform there
can be seen a signal post with two signal arms. The Board of Trade passed a new
requirement in 1877 concerned stop and distant arms when placed together on the
same post. The requirement laid down that the stop arm must be the higher of
the two. Previously the Board of Trade had laid down that the distant signal
arm should have a notch cut out of the end giving it a 'fish tail' look.
