LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Harborne

Harborne Station: lnwrh68a

Close up showing the Harborne Railway Company's platform furniture

This close up of image 'lnwrh68' shows a lady with her son pushing a scooter sheltering in the entrance to the ladies waiting room. Most railway companies offered separate facilities for the "fairer" sex and their children and this waiting room would have had "en-suite" toilet facilities too. The waiting room alluded to by the Booking Office and Waiting Room sign offered facilities to gentlemen or families.

The two bench seats appear to be deeper than normal with scroll ironwork framing and would have been supplied by the Harborne Railway Company not the LNWR as the LNWR were only responsible for the supply of locomotive power and vehicles for the carriage of goods and passengers. Note the scales for the weighing of parcel traffic and the large wheeled porters barrow adjacent to what appears to be the parcel or goods shed.
