LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Lichfield
Gravelly Hill: lnwrgh1487
The date of this postcard is unknown but it is probably the
late 1890s looking towards Birmingham and Hillaries Road bridge. The photo is
of interest because access to the station buildings on the left (Birmingham)
platform is via a ramp from Hunton Hill which crosses the railway from where
the photograph was taken. Frederick Road which is the current access to the
station doesn't exist being fields.
Not known is whether this ramp was replicated on the right
(Sutton Coldfield) platform. The two-storey building contains the booking
office located on the first floor with access to both platforms being via the
door seen in the photo which led out on to the footbridge and then via its
steps down to either platform. The single storey building on the left provided
the waiting rooms and toilet facilities.
