This 1930s view of the station building on the island platform shows that the building was in fact narrower than at first thought because of the spread of the canopies on either side of the platform. The distinctive "lean-to" providing cover to passengers standing at the booking office is very evident. The coaches beyond platform 3 are standing in the carriage sidings which tended to be occupied either at off-peak periods or overnight.
