LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Lichfield
Four Oaks: lnwrfo51
Looking towards Lichfield with two ex-LMS 'Stanier' 4MT
2-6-4T locomotives standing at two of the station's three platforms. The
majority of the "all stations to Birmingham" local passengers trains started
from Four Oaks. The train on the left having just arrived on a local passenger
service from Birmingham whilst the train on the right is just about to
depart.
Although the photograph was taken in June 1949, some 18
months after nationalisation, this scene is pure LNWR/LMS with the only BR
corporate identity being addition of the number 4 before the LMS running
number. There is no sign of either a BR logo or LMS lettering on locomotive's
tank sides probably because the decision to adopt the "cycling" lion had only
just been made and priority would be focused on locomotives being
out-shopped.
