LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Lichfield

This view of the station, carriage sidings and goods yard was taken at the very dawn of the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) era which, in the opinion of the author, loses some of its otherwise magic. The carriage and goods sidings share common turnouts from the main line separating just past the mess hut on the right. The island platform served up traffic to Birmingham with the middle platform, No 2, generally serving through trains from Lichfield and the right-hand platform, No 3, serving trains terminating at the station. The points to the bottom of the photograph shows trains arriving from Birmingham could access platform 3 directly. 1st November 1957
