The Roundhouse in Sheepcote Street is seen to the left of the Birmingham Canal which was built 1840. Richard Foster in his excellent book Birmingham New Street - Expansion and Improvement 1860 to 1923 describes the scene as thus. "The Roundhouse, Sheepcote Street, Birmingham, West Midlands - The Roundhouse, to the left of the Birmingham Canal, was built in 1840 as a mineral and coal wharf for the London & North Western Railway. It is an asymmetrical horseshoe design comprising stables and stores of red brick with stone trim".
