LMS Route: Nuneaton to Coventry

Coundon Road Station: lnwrcr37a

Close up of image 'lnwrcr37' showing the station's down platform building which provided accommodation for a general waiting room and a ladies waiting room. The ladies waiting room had provision for an internal lavatory which was accessed internally. The two windows in the gable end wall are fitted with obscured glass and therefore it would seem that this was the room nearest the camera was the ladies waiting room whilst the far room with a window on either side of the door was the larger general waiting room. Beneath the British Railway's 'totem' sign displaying the station's name are three fire buckets which would have been filled with sand. The possibility of a fire being caused by one of the hot embers ejected from the chimney of passing locomotives was always a risk particularly more so if the buildings were timber built. The down platform building was of a different design to that seen on the up platform because it was a replacement structure for the original building burnt down in 1896.
