View of a four-car DMU standing at the new up platform with the new concourse structure in the background and the island platforms yet to be built. The rebuilding of the station required the contractors to phase in new facilities as and when the old ones were demolished. Essentially the original up platform remained in use for the majority of the time because much of it was retained as part of the new station. The removal of the original down platform only took place after its replacement, the new platform 4, was complete.
