View of the end of the concourse showing one of the methods
used to by the post office in transporting mail by train as seen on 10th April
1953. The transport of mail bags was a major feature of railway life,
particularly in the early hours of the morning. Mail bags had to be sorted into
a coherent order with bags placed at the appropriate point along the platform
so that they aligned with the mail vans of each train each being dedicated to
one or more towns. Bags placed at the foot of the column will be forwarded to
the names of the towns or cities chalked on its side.
