Another view of Coventry station's concourse on the up platform with the Refreshment Room to the right of the exit

Another view of Coventry station's concourse on the up platform with the Refreshment Room to the right of the exit as seen on 10th April 1953. The steps to the down platform footbridge can just be seen to the right of the display case and above the four-wheel luggage cart. The extensive use of advertising for engineering products rather than consumer products can be seen on the four-sided advertising boards at the top of the columns and the display case. The posters on the wall include a 'Waters of Coventry' advert by one of the exits promoted a long established wine distribution company - a wonderful play on the family name. Also on the platform are baskets on a trolley of the type which were used to transport pigeons. The railways once played an important part in this hobby taking delivery of the birds, transporting them to a specified location somewhere in the country and releasing them all together at an agreed time. The author remembers as a child seeing pigeons being released from his local station, Tile Hill, in the late 1950s.
