View of the Rugby end of the down platform below Stoney Road bridge showing the late 19th century station structure. The platform beyond the bridge is significantly wider than the area to the right. The latter being restricted by the retaining wall constructed after the 1870s rebuilding and before the 1901-4 alterations. The advertising hoardings to the left of the bridge have replaced the ones that were damaged by the bombing in November 1940. The road bridge, being used effectively by the young trainspotters to have a panoramic view of the station, was rebuilt at least three times during the life of the station. The original bridge being built at the time of the opening of the London & Birmingham Railway was later replaced some time in the 1880s by this steel girder construction and then the current concrete structure which was constructed during the building of the new 1960s station. 10th April 1953
