The 1890s upgrade to the station provided significantly more facilities to both the up and down platforms and its configuration was in the main to last until the rebuilding in 1960. In addition to construction work on the front in Eaton Road the luggage bridge just above the locomotive was demolished as part of the building work carried out prior to the 1901-3 extension. The near bridge is a footbridge and has been constructed since the photograph of 1880. This bridge remained in place until the rebuilding of the modern station in the early 1960s.
