Ex-LMS 5MT 2-6-0 'Stanier Mogul' No 42950 is seen coming off the Leamington branch to enter Coventry station's new platform three. The realignment of the track including the junction to Leamington enabled Coventry's platforms to end nearer Rugby than previous however platform four as with its predecessor platform two was still shorter than the other platforms. Built as LMS No 2950 by Crewe works in December 1933 - the class was the first designed by Stanier in his role as CME of the LMS and was an upgrade of the 'Horwich Crab'- it remained in service until October 1965 when it was withdrawn from Heaton shed on the Mersey to be cut up in January 1966 by TW Ward Ltd of Killamarsh.
