Ex-LNWR 0-6-0 18in Goods Engine No 8451 and sister engine No 8548 are both seen standing at the West end of New Street station at the head of local passenger services

Ex-LNWR 0-6-0 18in Goods Engine No 8451 and sister engine No 8548 are both seen standing at the West end of New Street station at the head of local passenger services with the former engine on the Harbourne branch service circa 1934. Built as LNWR No 1491 at Crewe works in March 1898 No 8451 remained in service until January 1954 when it was withdrawn from Stoke-on-Trent shed to be scrapped by Crewe works. Sister locomotive No 8548 was also built at Crewe works in October 1900 as LNWR No 439 and it remained in service until December 1955 when it was withdrawn from Penrith shed to be scrapped in January 1956 by Crewe works.
