Ex-LNWR 2P 4-6-0 Experiment class No 5468 'Lady of the Lake' still carries its LNWR livery and lining when seen at the head of a down express service to Wolverhampton. However by this date its LNWR number plate on the cab side has been removed and replaced by the LMS crest. Built in September 1906 as LNWR No 1989 by Crewe works the LMS number was applied in April 1927 some twenty months before the name 'Lady of the Lake' was removed in December 1928. With the introduction of many new LMS locomotives No 5468 was retired from service in December 1929 to be scrapped by Crewe works shortly afterwards.
