Ex-LMS 6P 4-6-0 Rebuilt Patriot Class No 45540 'Sir Robert Turnball' is seen standing at the West end of Platform 10 at the head of an express service to the West Country. Immediately behind the tender is a fitted bogie van whilst to the right is an old LNWR coach standing at Platform 11 next to the fish sidings. Originally rebuilt from a Fowler Patriot design at Crewe works in November 1947, No 45540 had earlier been one of the Patriot classes notionally rebuilt from a LNWR Claughton class locomotive in August 1933. Like most of the 6P rebuilt Royal Scot and Patriot class locomotives, No 45540' working life was cut short by the modernisation plan being withdrawn in May 1963 from Upperby shed in Carlisle to be scrapped in July 1963 by Crewe works.
