Ex-LMS 5P4F 2-6-0 'Crab' No 42818 is seen on pilot duties as it takes forward from Platform 7 an empty stock working to Vauxhall carriage sidings on 17th September 1949. Whilst the tender still retains the LMS lettering on the tender the number on the cabside has been been changed by adding 40000 to its last LMS number together with its classification being reduced to 4F. Built as LMS No 13118 by Horwich works in July 1929 it was one of five locomotives that were fitted with Lentz Poppet valve gear and whilst it was free running no other locomotives were modified. Being a member of well regarded class of locomotive No 42818 was to remain in service until May 1962 when it was withdrawn from Burton-on-Trent shed to be scrapped immediately by Horwich works.
