LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton
Berkswell and Balsall Common: lnwrberk534
Ex-LNWR 3P 4-4-0 Precursor class No 5306 'Lang Meg' is seen
on a Euston to Blackpool service north of Berkswell on 11th August 1928. Philip
Millard writes 'The train is an excursion (reporting number 384) - quite
possibly to Blackpool - formed of arc-roof suburban non-corridor (no
lavatories) stock' at least twenty-five years old, so not very suitable for a
long-distance excursion. The locomotive was built as LNWR No 1287 at Crewe
works in March 1906 No 5306 had only recently been so numbered in April 1928
and remained in service until February 1936 when it was withdrawn for scrapping
at Crewe works.
