Ex-LNWR 4-6-0 'Large Boilered' Claughton No 5975 'Talisman' is seen stabled alongside the coal stack on 9th October 1932. Built as LNWR No 12 by Crewe works in April 1920 No 6975 received its name in January 1923, coincidentally coinciding with the formation of the LMS from the LNWR, LYR, MR, GSWR. CR, HR and a number of smaller railway companies. The above locomotive received its LMS running number four years later in January 1927. Whilst it too received the modifications to improve performance, including the new large boiler, the introduction of the Patriot class resulted in it being withdrawn in June 1937 to be scrapped by Crewe works.
