LNWR 2P 4-6-0 No 1703 'Northumberlandshire', an Experiment class locomotive, is seen at the head of a mixed stock down express approaching Shilton station. Built at Crewe works in December 1909 No 1703 was renumbered as No 5548 by the LMS in June 1926 and remained in service until March 1934 when it was withdrawn from service to be scrapped by Crewe works.
