LMS Route: Nuneaton to Leamington

LMS Stanier 2-8-0 8F No 8111 pilots an unidentified ex-LNWR 0-6-0 Webb 'Coal' engine on a Coventry bound passenger train. The length of train would not normally have warranted to be given such extra power as the 8F so it is more than probable that it has been coupled to the LNWR 0-6-0 to save 'control' from having to find an extra path.

Its easy to forget that the North Warwickshire coal fields, now long abandoned, were once prodigious users of the line with their coal being sent to the south both via LMS metals and via the GWR line from Leamington. 1930s
