LMS Route: Nuneaton to Leamington
Old Milverton Lineside Views: lnwr_oldmil1446b
In this close up of image 'lnwr_oldmil1446', lying at a
30° angle, is a LNWR single plank flat wagon. On the latter, and on the
left of the single plank, there is evident a 'white' triangle which was a
symbol used by the LNWR to denote the ownership of its wagons. To the left of
this wagon, out of view, was a LNWR 'loco' wagon used to transporting coal to
Milverton shed.
Harry Jacks in his RCTS book 'LNWR locomotives of the LNWR
Southern Division' records that in 1855 there were six locomotives at
Milverton, two of them being spare. Before opening it had been estimated that
only one engine would be required but this quickly turned out to be an
underestimate.
