LMS 4P 4-4-0 Compound No 1157 doubleheads LMS 5XP 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 5688 'Polyphemus' at the head of a down express as they approaches Newbold Troughs in August 1939. The Compound was built by the North British Locomotive Company in September 1925 No 1157 remained in service until May 1960 when it was withdrawn from Derby shed to be stored at Derby until November 1960 when it was scrapped by Doncaster Plant. Jubilee No 5688 was built at Crewe works in February 1936 and remained in service until December 1962 when it was withdrawn from Kingmoor shed in Carlisle to be scrapped in June 1963 by Crewe works.
