Ex-LNWR 3P 4-4-0 Precursor class No 25298 'Dragon' is seen at the head of a local passenger service passing through Brinklow on the relief up line in the summer of 1938. Built as LNWR No 60 at Crewe works in October 1904 it was renumbered No 5298 by the LMS in April 1927 and remained in service until October 1938 when it was withdrawn to be scrapped at Crewe Works shortly afterwards. Like many other pre-1914 LNWR locomotives it was placed on the duplicate list by adding 20000 to its number to make way for the LMS' new 5MT and 5XP series in the early 1930s.
