With what appears to be a Gloucester R.C.& W. 2-car unit in front, a 2-car Park Royal DMU, later TOPS class 103, brings up the rear of a Birmingham train

With what appears to be a Gloucester R.C.& W. 2-car unit in front, a 2-car Park Royal DMU, later TOPS class 103, brings up the rear of a Birmingham train in May 1966. The building just visible on the left is the booking office. Also visible by the window on the end of the booking office is the "Car S Stop" sign which indicated the correct position for the driver to stop. At this time the platforms could only hold about 4 coaches, and as peak hour trains were often formed of 6 or more, it was not unusual for trains to have to draw up to allow passengers from the rear units to alight. Prior to the total rebuild for electrification the platforms were later extended northwards to accommodate the longer trains. Andy Lawton
