This view of the up platform looking towards Birmingham shows the main station building with a member of staff entering the booking office at the far end of the building. The waiting room was next to the booking office and the gentlemen's toilets are at this end of the structure. Access to the station was via wooden steps down from the bridge on to the down platform. Passengers were required to cross the line via the barrow crossing seen at the the end of the platform under the bridge.

When New Street was an open station staff would collect tickets at this station prior to entering New Street. The siding on the right was used to access one of the factories and was still used up to the 1960s.
