Keith Turton's History of Warwickshire's Industrial
Railways, Sidings and Private Owner Wagons
Birmingham Gas Works: misc_kt384
This is one of 75 wagons built by Thomas Burnett of
Doncaster in 1913. It typifies the early attempt to standardise the wagon fleet
and tailor it to the unloading facilities at the various gasworks with side,
end and bottom doors to suit rotary or hydraulic tippers and hoists. The
standardised livery was black with white letters, sometimes shaded red. Empty
returns are to the Butterley Colliery in Derbyshire.
