0-6-0ST 'Emily' stands on elevated track at the Austin Works in the early 1950s

0-6-0ST 'Emily' stands on elevated track at the Austin Works in the early 1950s. This locomotive was built by Manning Wardle and Co at their Boyne Engine Works, Leeds in February 1899 (Works No 1416). In March 1917 following the expansion of the Austin Works, the company advertised for locomotives for use in their South Works. Several secondhand locomotives were purchased from various contractors including ‘Emily’ from ‘JD Nowell & Sons’ in November 1917. The locomotive gave good service being finally scrapped in 1956.
