Miscellaneous: Operating Equipment & Practices
Maintenance of the Permanent Way: misc_equip238
Extract from Great Western Railway pamphlet issued in
November 1937 entitled Instructions for the operation of the Motor
Trolley System. This system was used on the Shipston-on-Stour Branch line
from 28th September 1931 (gwrmm1001) to
increase productivity of the Permanent Way Staff by reducing the time spent in;
travelling and transporting materials, to work locations. A description of the
system, its development, and the static equipment used, is given in
misc_equip237. This pamphlet includes
how the motor trolleys shall be driven, together with safety and inspection
requirements. There are several paragraphs on fire extinguishers probably
reflecting the increased risks associated with petrol engines and paragraph 21
identifies the record keeping required.
