Avon Bridge Power Station: misc_abps155d

The final photograph showing the aftermath of a shunting incident at the Power Station's rotary coal tippler in the late 1940s

The final photograph showing the aftermath of a shunting incident at the Power Station's rotary coal tippler in the late 1940’s. This photograph also shows some of the other mechanical handling plant associated with the rotary coal tipper. This included an enclosed vertical bucket type elevator which took the discharged slack coal from the pit below the tipper up to a feed chute over the high level troughed band conveyer. From here the slack coal could be taken to any of the storage hoppers above the Power Station boilers.

Parallel with the standard gauge line to the rotary coal tipper is a narrow gauge line with at least two side dump trucks. There were several narrow gauge lines on the Avon Bridge Power Station site and this line is recorded on the 1953 ordnance survey map of the site.
