LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6137 'Vesta' in original condition passes LMS 0-6-0 4F No 4339 whilst on down express. The Fowler 4F was built the year prior to the Royal Scot being built by Kerr & Stuart to order 4367 in October 1926. The irony is that whilst the Royal Scot was subsequently rebuilt, with the most notable visual difference being the tapered boiler and was considered by many to be the ultimate 4-6-0 design in the UK, the 4F outlived it being withdrawn in December 1965 from Buxton shed to be scrapped the following year in April 1966 by Arnott, Young, Parkgate & Rawmarsh. The Royal Scot, also seen in image 'lnwrrm808' was another of the North British Locomotive's contribution built to order 23632 in October 1927 remaining in service until October 1962 when it was withdrawn from Carlisle Upperby shed for scrapping by Crewe works in May 1963.
