GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Wilmcote Station: gwrwil514a
This close up of image 'gwrwil514' shows the main building
on the up platform platform. The type of construction appears to be similar to
the original building on the up platform seen at Stratford in image
'gwrsa505a'. In particular the chimneys are very similar although the canopy is
different.
The platform furniture shows two benches, one wooden the
other a standard GWR cast iron framed timber planked model. Outside the booking
office door is a set of heavy duty scales, the type where items are placed on
top of the 'weighing plate' and the weights are added on an arm. The porters
trolley is a standard GWR model with iron wheels and used the barrow crossing
that lay at the Birmingham end of the station.
Also seen are oil lamps hanging from the canopy as well two
lamp posts providing lighting to the footbridge as well as the path from the
road which can just be seen next to the footbridge. The footbridge was a later
addition probably erected when the line was upgraded to a main line route by
the GWR in 1908.
