GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley and Duddeston: gwrhd676
The northern end of Pitsford Street with the north entrance
gates, behind the hut, being open. The stable block mentioned in image 'gwrhd685a'
was so extensive it reached this gate which was several hundred feet away from
the office block. The weigh bridge and office are immediately beyond the
gates.
According to Frank Popplewell, the hut in the foreground
belonged to the contractor and was retained by the GWR after the contractor had
finished with it to be used as a gateman's shelter. At the time of the
photograph, the main cartage deck, which is on the left, was still in the early
stages of construction. 12th February 1940
