Stratford on Avon Station: smjsa63b
Close up of image 'smjsa63' showing Stratford on Avon
station's up platform and the various furniture, posters and architecture on
display. The canopy has glazed panels in the roof to provide natural light
whilst on the platform there are two pairs of different styles of bench
seating. Arthur Jordan records in his book that station had 'a number of
automatic machines which dispensed Nestles' or Fry's chocolate bars or Sun Maid
Raisins after the insertion of one penny'. Arthur states that the popular name
for the machine was 'penny-in-the-slot machines' and reflected the lack of
inflation as the price remained the same for half of century.
