E&WJR 2-4-0 No 13 was considered a handsome locomotive with its proportions its dark blue livery which was new to the railway. The simplified cast iron number plate on the cabside is evident as is the 'E&W' plate on the tender firmly placing the date of the photograph to before 1909. This was the second and last 2-4-0 tender locomotive in the E&WJR's stable (No 4 being the first) although a second locomotive to the same specification as No 13 had been debated. Built 1903 by Beyer Peacock, No 13 had a 'C' power rating and was to have a very short working life being withdrawn as LMS No 290 in 1924.
