View on 12th October 1963 of the derelict original signal box and station after the removal of its second canopy. The station had been closed to a regular passenger service for some thirteen years when the photograph was taken. The ornamental features of the original 1873 East & West Railway structure with its tiled roof is better seen without the canopy. Later additions seen on the right were built with a flat roof because of its cheaper construction costs.
