Close up of image 'smjfc20' showing the East side of Fenny Compton station's main building and the basic goods yard. A pile of coal has been tipped at the side of the siding behind the fencing to the down platform. It is most likely that the coal has been provided for use by the station staff for their mess facility and to heat the building during winter. However it might have belonged to a coal merchant using the siding who could not discharge the coal from the wagon in to his facilities within the three day period given free of charge. After this period the railway would start to charge merchants. On the left above the fencing an ex-LMS 8F 2-8-0 can be seen on the left approaching the station.
